How Much of Who We Are Comes from the Education System?
Since the educational system offers a fundamental framework for learning and comprehending the world around us, it shapes a significant portion of who we are, including our knowledge, values, social skills, and worldview. This influence varies depending on individual experiences, family dynamics, and broader societal influences.
Many of the ideas we use for the rest of our life in regards to government, society and politics are formed when we are in high school. This is when a teenager transitions into an adult. Though, afterwards there will be much tweaking and revising of these views, the foundations are laid here.
90% of students in America attend a public high school. The rest attend private schools like religious institutions and military schools in Virginia for example. It is generally accepted that private education is better. Most of the reasoning for this is because of the attention each student receives. When they are struggling with a subject, there is always a teacher or tutor there to help.
Most people do not have the funds to send their teenager to private school. So, what options do they have:
1. Hire a private tutor – This is much cheaper than a private school.
2. Spend more time with your child and help with homework – There is no better way to make sure something is being done right than by doing it yourself.
3. Talk with your student’s teachers. They know what is really going on with their education.
4. Move to an area where the public school has a great reputation. All schools are not on par with one another. Better schools churn out better students.
With the knowledge that high school is a major influence on who we become, it is important for every parent to look at their options and make the best decision they see fit.
